Fight XP equal?

When I attack someone and get 5 xp, do they get the same amount of xp? Or does it matter who wins?

I've noticed that when I'm evenly matched with a certain guy and win, I get 5 XP, but when I lose, I usually only get 2.

Just wondering if when I win, it my opponent is getting lots or little.
