30% rule
Forums › Help & Strategy › 30% rule-
I asked this within another post a while back and couldn't remember which it was so can't find out if it was answered.
Can somebody please tell me if the 30% rule is bi-directional? If my attack is lower than, but within 30% of a players defense, do I have a chance to win a fight?
-
That's not the 30% rule. Before Tommies and lapuas, best defense was 30% stronger than best attack. So you your mob had to be 30% bigger with best attack weapons to be equal strength to someone with best defense weapons.
Now, Best defense is approx 22% stronger than best attack. A weaker defense can beat a stronger attack, but your attack needs to be closer to around 85% of their defense.
So everyone crying about mob isn't exactly right. Mob number isn't the key. It's how they are armed.

Oh damn it...Seriously?
There are just way to many sources of bad or misinformation to sift through. I didn't read the 30% rule as a mob figure, but an att/def figure. So as an example, 101k attack WILL beat 100k defense every time? It doesn't take 130k attack to win?
I've been staying away from some people because I didn't think I could take them. I'm going to have to revisit my list....lol

The 30% does pertain to attack and defense. The two main combos before tommies and lapuas were Minigun/Armor (31 defense) and RPG/Armor (24 attack)101k attack will not beat 100 defense every time.
If you add equal mob members armed in that fashion, defense was 30% stronger. Therefor, you would 30% more mob to be equal.
The closet two mobs attack and defense strength are to each other, the more likely they will go 50/50 in fights.
If you are 10% stronger, you will win more, but you will not win all. If you are 10% weaker, you will lose more, but you will not lose all.
The %ages are the difference in attack an defense if each mob had the best of each combo. You need a bigger mob to have your attack = your opponents defense. But you do not need to be stronger to win. You just need to be close. And just being stronger doesn't mean you always win. The gap in strength makes all the difference.

Ok, I've got it now. And you've definitely answered my question although I had the details wrong. The rule is bi-directional, I will win on occasion if I have slightly lower attack. It's been bugging me and I guess I was too much of a wuss to just test it on my own, lol...
Thank you, and Happy Holidays from Miami to Maui!

I'm going to beat this dead horse just a little more, not only for my understanding, but also to make sure that we're leaving solid info in the forum. I answered another post yesterday about capping and need to verify that I was correct. I'm sort of answering my own question here, but definitely hope that somebody will correct me if anything is wrong.
I'm assuming best attack/defense in all calcs (without loot).
I have 5000 mob, 130k att, you have 3125 mob, 100k def, I win every time.
I have 5000 mob, 130k att, you have 4063 mob, 130k def, I win occasionally.I have 5000 mob, 130k att, you have 5000 mob, 160k def (within 30% of my attack+30%), what happens here?
I just tested attacking somebody with a defense 15% higher than my attack and lost all 14 fights until he was in the ER. I only tested it once, but 14 in a row would indicate that I cannot beat him until my attack is either closer or above his defense. So the rule may not be bi-directional. -
Ok, another test. This one not as friendly as the first, I had turf capped...lol. The mobster that capped my turf had an attack strength below mine, but just barely. His attack was 97% of my defense and he successfully took my turf.
-
That is a reasonable expectation. In that range, you should go about 50/50.
-
So anyone know how low or far off you can be and still win?
Could you win a fight with 50% lower attack (vs defense) in say 1 in 50?
Has anyone some statistics on this, lets say I attack someone with defense 250k with 175k attack str is there ANY chance of winning? -
I know I'm getting anal about this, but I am still seeking the att/def % where somebody won't win. I just asked a mobster with 94% attack to my defense to help test.
It took him 12 attacks to cap my turf. He lost 7 and won 5.
I'm still looking to test 90%, 80%, 70% and will update this thread when I can.
I know stamina plays into this also, but I think that only drags the fights out longer (Can anybody comment on the role that stamina plays?).

Stamina has mo effect as far as I know. No stam, no attack. That is all.
