Why do turfs pay protection to other bigger turfs?

It doesn't make sense a smaller turf pays protection to a bigger one when the bigger one could capture it at any time. What is the protection for?

I know but WHY do you have to pay for protection? They dont really protect you, just rob you on money unless Im missing something

Anyone can collect protection from any other player regardless of level. If you don’t like it then cap it or move

It’s a scheme as old as time, man. Irl people were forced to pay protection or they’d get fucked up. It’s protection from those you’re paying, aka extortion. You’re thinking too far into it. They’re bigger than you, so they take a cut of your income. That’s the way it goes
