Is buying 4 Kevlar vests the same as having 1 body armour?

You must have more mob to get the same benefit. In my opinion, it works best to use Kevlar when your resources are lower than a million, and you are still lower than thirty, as the fees on armor are exorbitant. After that seems convenient to armor up.

However, if you have great numbers of mob it will allow you to earn more money to just stick with Kevlar.

The negative income that would occur with high debt after a sufficient amount of turf or improvements were capped could prove an armor investment without sufficient mob unwise. Keep that in mind if you operate in highly populated areas.

I have around 1700 mob and each have a body armour but upkeep is a real burden as not getting much income. Would it work if I sold them all and got 4 times Kevlars per mob member or would that not work as was once told could only have 1 vest per mob member,

That wouldn't work. You could only have 1700 Kevlars then. Only one per person is correct.

Cheers but that's my problem as my mob is growing I can't afford to equip them and am still getting attacked so if I sell the body armour I will be pretty screwed. As of this morning I am in negative equity. What shall I do?

I'd go for a mix, sell just enough armour to go back into modest positive income and fill up the other spots with Kevlar.

I'd actually just go grenades over the ak47s. You'd get more defense than selling the armors.
