If my mob all have a lupa and body armour the the mini guns that I have are useless ... Is that right in terms of attack and defence ??

Correct. Just remember to stock up to 1000 with non-upkeep weapons to equip your new mob members that you get overnight. It's better to have that extra few attack and defence.
