How do the weapons work on this game? I hear people saying switch weapons and stuff but can you not just buy a mixture or what's the best weapons to buy for my mob?

Yup. You can buy a full offensive and defensive set. They will auto equip based on whether you attack or get attacked. Switching between yourself and selecting any turf on the manage inventory screen will switch between offense and defense and show your utilization and unused per selection.

For your level and mob size, most would suggest non upkeep until you are really fighting. Save cash now for hopping new places and building some savings.

No. And you aren't paying hourly for anything but the single AK. You especially want to keep special looted weapons. They are rarer and generally rank better than bought items. You could sell the AK unless you need it for a mission you want to do. I think Belial made a thread about equipping your mob, way back. A google search should turn that up if you reference his name too.

How do I leapfrog, when I build a new turf the green circle won't get any bigger so I can't move?

You need to upgrade the turf first, then the green circle will get bigger so you can hop.
