How do you use airports to travel and claim turf?

You claim a turf in the large yellow circle surrounding the airport. After about 10 minutes the game will register your turf as able to access the airport (you'll know that by checking your turf list under the button in the Home Tab called "Your Turf" and seeing a ✈️ next to it). From there, select that turf and scroll down where you see the airport initials. Tap that black button and you'll see a new screen of airports you can now fly to. Tap "Claim Turf" and plant a turf in the now large green circle of the new airport you fly to.
