Hopping?

I have heard talk of hopping to other cities by building along highways. But as soon as I try to add turf outside city limits I get a message that I can't claim turf. I play from an android device. Is this a bug? Or am I doing something incorrectly?

What does the message say? Invalid location? Or over your turf limit?

Invalid location, I have plenty of extra turf slots

The geocoder doesn't recognize the area you're trying to build turf in as a valid lovation. On Apple devices you can switch between apple and Google geocoders but (as far as I know) there's nothing you can do on android except try a different location.
