Currently I have a net income of 1.3M with my upkeep approaching 100k. I like being able to max out new turf in 2 hours, but feel my offense and defense need work.

You don't need a lot of upkeep items unless you're in a vendetta or in a war.They just take away valuable income if no in this situations.
