Turf around town

I work in the city, I have a few turfs there that I am building up, and it works well because I am in town for work and mob on slow days. However I live in an area where there is literally no claimed turf. Can I claim turf here or only near my existing turf? I was able to claim one area not near my base of operations but dont understand how. thanks guys.

You can plant turf anywhere both you and your device are, as long as you are under your turf limit.

When you plant a turf, you increase the range you can place turf. To increase the range, upgrade your turf or put the police map loot item in the turf. The green circle you see when you add turf is where you can place turf.

Upgrade your turf by influence, not defense.
