Why is exp so random?

Just fought a guy about the same level as me with almost the same amount of mob as me, 1xp per win.

Then fought a guy with like 500 less mob than me and 20 less levels, 5xp per win.

What determines xp gain?

Well I always thought I was one level but I guess not haha.

You'll get the most xp when the fight is close. The person with the similar mob count may be poorly armed, or in a vendetta.
