From personal experiance, if your new then the best way to learn and survive is to learn off a seasoned player. Luckly I have one of the UK's best teaching me the ropes. Start by reading the rules but please make a friend who has been there and done that.

I started a V as soon as I reached level 25, didn't mob, etc. Most mobsters will happily take you under their wing if you ask nicely.

...And if they don't and demand 'protection'. It's more motivation to mob up!
