So ya wanna custom code, huh? Before you spend precious Respect Points on your cool new code, some things to think about......
* First of all, no one is going to remember your awesome cool custom code you were so clever to come up with. Almost no one will ever see it again after punching it once. It does not enhance your rep nor does it help your game. People will not talk at parties about how awesome the guy with "BAMABITCH420" must be. It is a simple one-time use tool that you want to be as easy to use as possible. Treat it accordingly.
... and, oh yeah, if you're the kind of player that attaches your invite code on your turfs or username like moi, these suggestions are especially meaningful......

* Don't use numbers in place of letters, particularly don't use zero instead of "O", and particularly particularly if you are doing so because someone took the code you wanted. It is easy to mistake the two. If you can't have BOOM and decide to use zeroes and go with B00M, realize that a good number of players are going to spell the word with "O"s and you will lose out on some invites while helping out that guy who got BOOM before you could have it.
* Don't misspell a word because someone else took that word already. If someone took AWESOME and you go with AWSOME as a next-best thing, realize that a fair number of literate players will unconsciously spell it correctly out of habit. You lose out on invites. AWESOME benefits accordingly.

* For the love of Doug, please don't excessively alternate numbers and letters. It is super annoying to keep alternating screen keyboards on some devices between the letter keys and the number/symbol keys. Just say no to stuff like "1A2X1", "4D0LF", and "A1B2C3".
* Don't run long strings of the same character. Because, real fast, how many "M"s are in this string?... ( MMMMMMMM ) Can you count them easily? Neither can anyone else. You might get the invite, but so might MMMMMMM or MMMMMMMMM.

* Don't include the word "ADD" in your custom code. If your code is "ADD:DUNN" (yes, that is a real code someone made), a large number of people will simply add DUNN (again, lol). Other real life examples include ADDCHEESE and ADDMOB. CHEESE and MOB thank those guys from the bottom of their hearts.
* Hey, you can use more than 8 characters. You don't have to use the difficult-to-remember "BCKWRDS" when you can still remain under the 12-character limit when using "BACKWARDS". Yes, BCKWRDS is a real code, while BACKWARDS is actually still available (at the time of this writing).

You can stick to your guns and ridicule players who don't get your cleverness or can't type your cool code the right way. And you'll be mighty principled while others grow bigger mobs because they understand human nature. Choose wisely.
Those are the thoughts off the top of my head. Apologies if I come off as a pompous self-righteous bastard. Actually, no, that would be an accurate assessment of me.
Any other thoughts and observations from fellow TW'ers.....? Please share!

Yes, some real gems here.

Addendum. It's long. Bear with me.
* Don't waste your don points on a custom code which results in any of the following patterns of letters and numbers: XXX00000, XXXX0000, XXXXX000. You see, the 3-5, 4-4, amd 5-3 letter-number patterns are the default used by the game when you create an account. Stick with me here. If your code permeates deep into code list sites such as invitecodematrix, there comes a point of serious diminishing returns as you go back in time punching codes. Speaking for myself, any farther back than 2012, I have only punched custom codes. Reason being, probably a large percentage of default code players who never bothered to create a custom code have lost interest and gone inactive, but anyone who invested the time to make a custom code is a bit more likely to still be around. Make your new custom code very obviously not one that looks like the default styles.

Don't use emoji or other characters that aren't universally supported. Your new code won't be able to be added to icm and you'll have pretty much wasted 25 respect points.
-
Or you can just keep your game issued code. I've never changed mine.
