How do i keep from paying protection to other players?

If your turf is less than 86 and their turf is 86, build yours to 86.

If a smaller-mobbed player than you has looted upgrades on their turf, making it more than 86, capture it. You don't need "protection" (in mafia terms - extortion) from players you can beat.

If a player with a bigger mob than yours has looted upgrades covering your turf, tear it down and plant elsewhere.

If you add your own loot to match them, they are no longer getting income from your turf and they'll likely cap your turf, and take the loot.

What if our turf has the same influence and they are inactive but still larger? Should i still being losing income to them?

Protection is only paid if one turf has less influence.
