Ok, so my home town is in Birmingham, AL. I traveled to Nashville, TN the other day and it let me plant turf as normal, but this weekend I traveled to Gulf Shores (south Alabama) and its saying in "too far away from my home turf" and that I'll have a 30% defense decrease for a few weeks? Help please! Thanks.

Plant anyway! Make a safety turf or two other places nearby. This is completely normal. I THINK you have to have turf within 150 miles to not suffer penalty.

After further investigation... Birmingham to Nashville is 193 miles. You built a turf on your way north, in Ardmore, on the state line. That turf avoided you the penalty, when you later built in Birmingham.

If we look at your trip south... When you failed to plant turf(s) between Columbiana/Alabster and Foley, 244 miles, you suffered a penalty. Had you planted a turf in Greenville, 134 miles from Birmingham and 134 miles to Foley. I believe you would have narrowly escaped a penalty for both legs of your trip to Gulf Shores(Foley).

240 km = 149 miles. That fits with the info in Help that says the penalty kicks in if you travel more than 149 miles from your established turf.

Then why did I get it once when hopping?? And I had not hopped 240km, just from one side of Sydney to the other...
