Do I have to take over other turfs or can I create more? If so, how do I do this?

Your lvl10, you can probably plant like 3 more atleast

Under the Your Profile tab it tells you how many turfs you've claimed/have available. To claim go to turf map. Press the + sign in upper right corner Map will show a green area. Tap within it to claim turf.
