Are there some unwritten laws regarding who to fight/attack?

Usually as far as that goes it's up to the player. But generally speaking the honor rules usually go like this.

Don't pick on someone way smaller than you and can't defend (repeatedly attacking and capturing a lot of turfs).

Don't cap all a person's turfs in the area. That kills the income for everyone and possibly makes it impossible for a player to return.

So just in general, fight how you'd like people bigger than you to fight with you. Everyone has friends and never know who they are.
