I have been capped out of airports, out of cities where I only have one turf. Is every player in this game a jerk or is that just how to play the game?

I personally wouldn't drive someone out of town unless they deserved it. I have never created any problems in the locations I've been capped out of.

Any suggestions?

You will meet nice people, complete jackasses, ignorant folks, habitual liars, and honest ones. It's a pot luck and depending on where you plant, you may have to deal with one or all of these people. Build a reasonable amount of redundancy/security into your turf to defend against the unknown. I suggest you mob up as fast as possible, make friends, be a man of your word and you can avoid or resist some of the tom-foolery that you have experienced. Airports are one of the more heated battlegrounds partly because capping you is more favorable than dropping 60 million to plant a turf. Best of luck!

Um.. Playing a year and a half now.. If I did 31k mob in seven months, you have some catching up to do mister. This is the number one factor in protecting yourself. The bigger you get, the fewer mobsters can touch you. They will shrink exponentially!

Yes. Stop dropping only one turf. Risky style of play to do that. Airports especially are war zones.

Hop away from the airports and major cities and drop a few safety turf of one influence scattered about. Not right next to each other or in the core.

Your 86 infl turf get capped out of a city or airport? Voila. You have your scattered one influence safety turf to fall back on.

If you don't have enough turf limit to diversify at airports and new states or countries properly, then beef up your limit by buying 2 more turf limit per day. Then only travel when you have proper limit for safeties.

There is no etiquette to war. Listen to Saelo. Don't sit over limit or stretch yourself too thin. Make friends but know even they may cap you at some time or another.
