several newbie questions
Forums › Help & Strategy › several newbie questions-
there is no real search feature for these forums so pardon what i am sure are reposts of common newbie questions. I've read the entire FAQ and several other posts.
1. what are the differences between turf defenses and weapons defenses? If i have armor & weapons that provide defense, do they help protect my turf?
2. Is it good practice to have one weapon and piece of armor for each member in my mob? what if i have more weapons than mob members?
3. I read that adding points to attack and defense levels in 'my profile' are "at this time" a waste. what are these levels and are they still a waste as of july 2010?
4. How can i calculate who i can beat in a fight before i actually fight them? Basically i've just been looking for people with less of everything than i have and then fighting. Is this unfair or poor gameplay?
-
5. Another gameplay ethics question. Is is rude to keep attacking a person to gain money or until they are in the hospital?
6. What is the best way to protect turf (in regards to defense)?
7. I was given the advice of level up slowly. I'm afraid that if i level up or build a mob too quickly everyone will go after me and capture my turf. What are your suggestions for pace of building mobs, influence, and levels?

Turf defenses are a waste of money, usually.
Use a calculator... Or pen and paper... Or do the math on your head to calculate your opponents A&D. Then look in the market for your numbers.

If I remember correctly mobcode.org has a stat calculator that you can put your weapons and the person your going to attack and it will give you the totals.
-
1) When you arm your mob with weapons they are used to protect your turfs as well as you. Turf Defense Upgrades add "additional" defense points, but are generally not worth the upkeep for the amount they provide. 10 mob with top defense weapons equal less upkeep and mote defense.
-
2) Your mob members can use only 1 weapons and 1 armor at a time. However, they will use different weapons depending on if you are attacking or defending. They will always use the weapons that gives you the best stats. So that's why you see mobsters have two sets of weapons. Like in my case, when I attack my mobsters will use the body armors and Tommy guns, but when I'm defending they'll use the body armors and miniguns. Get it?
-
3) yes they are a waste still.
4) like tlkhrd said, check mobcode.org, they have a stat calculator. But know that even if your stats are higher than the other person, there is a random factor involved in fights so you may still lose occasionally if the stats are close
-
5) Usually people don't like when you hit them that many times. While I think a few hits a day are acceptable and should be expected for anyone, that does tend to make more enemies than friends.
-
6) Mob up as much as possible, buy top defense weapons. Or place turfs near people smaller than you.
-
7) when you have a low level or mob, people who are bigger won't be able to beat you because the Don will step in and help you. When you reach level 40 you will start showing up on other people's Fight page and can expect many more attacks. Even so, I'd still recommend at least mobbing up as fast as possible, even if you level up much slower. Try and build as many turfs as possible so you can make money so you afford top weapons later on when you need them.

Thank Everyone for helping to clear up some of my questions. This is more of a balancing act more than anything. For a while i thought not mobbing up in order to not have people attack me was the best choice, but really was the worst choice. I started punching codes like crazy and stepped up my Mob quite a bit.
I guess one question i have now is what if you have more mob members than weapons and armor? I know it must depend on the attacker / defender in the fight, but are the mob members without weapons / armor still counted and used ?
