I recently became capo of my area and the old capo, who is 8 levels under me attacked me. I responded by knocking a few of his turfs out of comission. Was this over the top?

That's a pretty small difference in the scheme of things, and knocking them out of comisson and not capping them I think is a fair enough response. Gotta be able to take a few lumps in this game I've begun to learn

How about an actuall message? Useally when I'm attacking too much or being attacked too much I start communication. Sometimes avoid a bigger conflict. If you both want capo then your going to have to fight, defend, capture or destory.

Absolutely correct. I'm a no cash player so I pay protection anywhere I'm not capo that can really add up. If it's worth fighting for remember we are "mobsters" here... If you want it, take it. But be sure you can handle the backlash. ie: retaliation and even a vendetta from a more political player.
And shout out to JMANX sorry for those bruises early on, but it seems you've totally found your footing!
