Turf cops?

I've noticed that on the turf screen I can see the income and upkeep of each turf, however I've just noticed a part labled "cops". Why us there money going to the police, and why am I spending different amounts on different turfs?

Go to your missions tab and then hit the protection button and pay off the police. It lasts for about a week and is more than worth the price.

Oh, ok. Is the amount I'm paying them right now paid every hour?

Your turf pays police protection if you are not capo of the area. Not exactly sure what the amount is based on...influence or income or both.

And what you pay the cops is paid hourly. Paying the cops off is well worth it. The protection screen will tell you when you need to pay up again.
