So if I buy something for my turf that has 5 def does it simply add 5 def points to me if someone attacks that turf? Thanks

It makes it so u are less likely to get ur turf taken by other players

If you go to market, you can see your current Att and def rating. It simply adds def to that as it shows. As far as I understand it is not a multiplier or anything, so is really pretty useless at the moment.
