Scrap the plane ticket-LONG HAUL TRUCKING!!

I asked about water turf, and was told it would go against the "realism" factor.
So let's get real.
Sure, a mobster can buy a plane ticket, but what's he gonna do when gets where he's going?
If hecwants to set up turf, he needs equipment. He needs guns. He needs supplies.
So instead of a plane, he hires a truck and trailer.
Daveyboy had some valid concerns about arrival notification and surprise attacks.
Travel takes time. And you would need a travel log.
A travelling player would have to state his destination before travel. Then implement a 1-3 day wait before departure.
-
This would all be on a "travel report" that all players could click on and see reports. Kinda like the top mob page.
The log would state who is leaving and when and wgere they are leaving from. It would also state where they are going and when they are expected there.
-
The route and Drive times could be actual google map driving instructions. Optionally, you could click on a travelling players name and see where along the route he is.
Because google lists actual driving time only, something would have to implemented so that travel can only occur for 6, 8 or 10 hours a day. This would prevent someone from going coast to coast in just 40 straight hours and make it an actual 4-5 day trip, sans wait period.
-
Departure and arrival would be predetermined. You can't just leave from your exact location.
Maybe airport to airport? I was going to suggest this feature for air travel. With a plane ticket, I was going to suggest:
You have to get to the nearest airport. Build a turf. The you have to wait 24 hours before departure. Destination airport would have already been determined as per travel log above.
-
So...departure and arrival locations are announced. Turf is built at departure location. 24 hour wait period + travel time, and then a 1 inf turf is auto built at destination after all times elapsed.
You could also impose a 24 hour wait/offload period at the destination before the turf could be upgraded or used for turf hopping.
I feel there should be a protection period on this turf making it un-cappable for the first 24 hours.
Departure turf-no protection period.
-
And this just came to me. Since it is long haul, anyone can turf hop to the route and wait for the truck to come by.
Can you say...HIJACK!!!!
Succed and you get to reroute the truck to a destination of your choice or carry on to original location.
In the event of a hijack, no wait periods for travel apply. Only the destination restrictions mentioned above. A message would go on the travel log stating who hijacked the truck and what the new destination is and the ETA.
And the new route would be configured by google maps.
In no cases does the player choose the route. Only Point A and Point B. Let google maps handle the rest.

Where do you get the truck from? Truck yards?
-
How about a live animation showing all the trucks on the move. It can be turned off in the options menu?
-
Dude! Great idea!

chain so u saying if some 1 from the us wan come Singapore they need drive here there Is no way u need a plane for thatfor overseas travel, and for places like Hawaii and Australia, the truck destnation would have to be a port like Oakland in the US. From there, you would transfer to a barge. Same travel speed rules apply.
Take me for example. I would have to get a turf to my shipping port in Nawilili or Honolulu. From there, I would have to go to Oakland, Seattle, LA, hong Kong, etc.,, someplace where there is a shipping port.
It takes the barges 7 days to get to Oakland from Honolulu, so it would take me 7 days to make the trip, plus the two 24 hour periods.
-
Supposing I wanted to go to Texas. I would choose my departure date and place and choose my destination.
I would have to have a turf at the departure location on the date specified or I miss the trip and have to start the process over.
Once the turf is built at the destination, it waits 24 hours before it can depart.
Again, using me as an example going to Texas, I would have to have a turf at Honolulu. It would take 7 days to get to Oakland. Once in Oakland it would transfIer to a truck to go to texas.
-
Since Texas is the destination, there would be no wait or delay periods in Oakland. I would also not get turf there, and won't be able to expand or do anything there. Oakland to Texas travel would follow standard travel guidelines listed above.

Nick stated that the plane ticket would be a very limited item and would be a loot item.
That could stIll apply, but instead of plane ticket it would
be "travel pass" or something to that effect. -
International travel:
this would require an additional item to the travel pass.
A passport.
This could be a loot item, or found under tools.
At a VERY high price, as it would have to be "Forged Travel Documents" in keeping with the spirit of the game.
Travel pass should be restricted to level 60 or so. Forged Documents don't unlock until level 75 or so.
-
Additionally, travel, or maybe plane tickets could be offered as a one time only deal for low level players-20 or below to help those in rural areas.
No international travel on this one.
This would simply be a help to new players in isolated ares get closer to some action.
And on the flipside, it would help newbs escape am overly crowded and hostile area to somplace a little more newb friendly to get established.

considering the distances likelyto be traveled and travel speed (50-60mph), I don't think it would be very anated.
Maybe update position incramentally? 5 minutes? 15 minutes?

I get what youre saying, but that makes it too easy, IMO.
Relocatingtravel expansion should have to be earned.
And made difficult/prohibitive enough that those with low integrity are discouraged from using it for evil.

So...if mobs can get ahold of of these travel passes (by loot or whatever)...and you mentioned hijacking as a possibility. But it seems like an equally possible "hijacking" solution would be the complete destruction of said vehicle. Such as blowing up the truck/barge/plane. This could be an equally rare/lootable item...and that either only the persons located near the destination, or make it so that anyone could make this happen. Thereby preventing the acquiring of said turf in their region.
-
I like the destruction idea. Maybe it would have to be a mobbed armed with xx amount of RPGs? And a location factor.
But in thinking about hijacking, the way attacks work now, smaller playersmay never make there destination. I think the main motive behind the travel idea is to help, not hinder.
So maybe during travel, the truck/barge/plane adds significantly to defense.
Something along the lines of while in transit, your attack and defense points are combined and go all into defense leaving you with zero attack.

I would also add to that that maybe you are also not allowed to drop any new pins during the travel time. So basically, you're not allowed to do much of anything during the time. You're obviously getting a huge advantage by being allowed to travel like that...so there should be a big disadvantage lumped with that. You shouldn't be made invulnerable (i.e. all defense)...but you shouldn't be able to go about your daily business either. So maybe during travel, the truck/barge/plane adds significantly to defense.

shouldn't be made "vulnerable"...typo there.

No turfing during travel was covered. Or at least I thought I did.
And as written, you are pretty much shut down during travel. Your points there are very valid, and what I was going for.
