Random Airports

So. Every two weeks a random airport opens and closes a couple days later. Places like Dubai, faro, cairo, Stockholm, just totally random places thoughts ?
-
No. There's already plenty of airports.

Interesting ....

I don't see why not actually. Random 1 time travel locations. Once you're there, if you're capped out, you stay out. I like. 👍
-
Interesting. However, it would need to stay open for 2 weeks since plenty of people have their tickets on different days (not everyone flies exactly 2 weeks from when they last flew).

Nothing would change. Once the airport goes live it can be used only once, but anytime, be it 1 week or 1 month. If there's an open/close timeframe that's unfair to newcomers.Interesting. That would make sense then. The op said it would close after a couple of days, hence my suggestion.Mystery wrote:

So what if it's unfair to newcomers? They could just fly to the next place that opens up. I think there should be a time frame on it. If you missed your flight. Tfb.Mystery wrote:

Otherwise, if you never fly you will eventually have so many airports available to you. It would clog up serverspace remembering for each player which airports are available to them or not. -

Kozy.. So someone starts a few days before the airports travel period ends but they can't afford to fly yet..they should lose the oppertunity? I'm for the random airport suggestion if its fair to every player period.

No. Its luck of the draw. You can hold on to your ticket and maybe never use it or use it and miss out on something you want.Kozy.. And ya it should work that way. Codes do. Players who started earlier have mob newer players can never get. So really why do you care so much if a noob missed out on one specific place? It's not like that's the only time they will ever get a chance to use a plane ticket. -
Wait a sec, vadan are you saying you only get 1 plane ticket ever, that could be used on any of the random airports? And once that one ticket is used you can never use the random airports again? But can still use fixed airports with your regular tickets?
Because I was under the impression the idea was that every few days an airport opens up and you have the option of using your bi-weekly ticket to go there instead of one of the fixed airports. -
I thought he was saying that every person had a chance to use one of their tickets to fly to a random airport. However, if say, Cairo was a random airport, then you could only fly to Cairo once.

Exactly this. Not quite the same comparison as mob. With mob you still have the chance to grow. If player A is 10k and players B is new, in 12 months player B can be 10k. But if player A flies to a random destination, say Cairo, player B who wasn't able to fly at the time now can't. What u'd end up with is random locations with the most powerful mobs. How does that make sense? Once a random airport is opened it should stay open until a ticket is redeemed on it.I thought he was saying that every person had a chance to use one of their tickets to fly to a random airport. This game is not about luck, there is no element of luck in what we do. Why should airports be a first come first serve lottery. If that's the case we might as well stick with what we have now. Atleast it's open to every single player.VADAN wrote:

If you want it to be fair to noobs the random airports could show up once a calendar year. And I think youd be able to use you normal plane ticket to travel to the random place. If you get capped out you have a year to bulk up and try again. Of course the random would be open for two weeks.
-
Ok ya I see your point. But in a year when someone starts they will have all of the regular airports plus the 26 random ones, if they spawn every 2 weeks. That seems like alot.
-
The same as anyone else. Maybe nick opens a say 30 airports then uses the randoms as the rest?

Kozy wrote:
That is true but let's put it in to practicality. Currently, the majority of players are going to locations based on strategy and not just for the sake of having turf in that city. If someone was for some reason to stockpile their random airports I don't think it'd make much difference, if anything it'd be harder for them. We mustn't forget the defnce penalty, if that player is unwanted they will be removed regardless. So it makes no difference if they have turf 20 random airports lined up. It'd take another 40 weeks to get to them all.Ok ya I see your point. I think a two week limit to use ut is fairest tbh. That was the original ideas frog and u came up with on pal. Maybe do ine a month. And I say ut should use the normal ticket.

Instead of a complicated randomized airport system... How about a very rare loot item - the private plane.
The map now recognizes many airports as its own "city" and you could then hop from one to another.
One use on a turf in any airport. You can then plant one turf in any other airport within 50 or 100 miles from the turf it was used on.
The regular airports would be for intercontinental travel, while the private planes would be better for local "long distant" hops. It will help people get out of "the middle of nowhere" places, without making permanent airport routes to these nowhere places.
-
Intereting getch. Loot for domestic flights. If international is fortnightly I'd wanna see a monthly on this.
-
@ Getch, that's just another way for people to avoid hopping. It's like the people that want trains & buses to take them places because they are too lazy to hop. Your idea is very different from the random airports where people would conglomerate. I think the random airports could be interesting. I'm not interested in things encouraging laziness. I'm waiting for someone to suggest a magic carpet that will take them anywhere they want to go, without any stops in the middle.
-
The magic carpet has already been let out of the bag. I think the whole airport thing has changed the game dramatically. It's now a game of airports, who's at which ones and who controls this one and that one. It should now be called "airport wars". Who cares who's in Fargo, it's not near an airport.
Randomized airports would be difficult to implement and difficult to follow as a player. At least with the private plane plan it would spread the game out and make the major airports "not as important" again.
It's not a matter of being lazy. The current system is skewed towards select players, those who happen to be in easy hopping distance to one of the few TW airports. You want your "magic carpet" advantage, but don't want anyone else to have it. What do you have against the guy in Fargo being able to play the same game as you?

Major cities on the east and west coast is where the action was at before anyway. I feel that no more airports should be opened other than maybe one or two in europe. If you don't live in a populated area and don't plan on visiting one or trying to hop one then this game isn't for you. Its not as much the Unfairness that the seven people can't travel that I have a problem with its the 200 people who may end up going there. Especialy on an international level. The people in Israel or Russia don't nessisarily want foreigners to appear out of nowhere and control the fate of the game in their area.
-
Perfect solution: Airports are ALL gone!
-
Mystery I don't think it would deter hopping. I think it would actuallu encourage it more. Especially is USA where airports spread from state to state, sometimes its just too costly. Maybe the use of a domestic flight should incur a fee.
