I think it would be handy to know if a player is active so that you can take over if they are gone!

No. If I'm gone for a week then I don't want people to know it. Maybe if it had last turf capped/planted on the profile page it would work. It would give you a general idea without letting you know if they are on.

I don't think that would be à good idea (why: read above post) but à sign on the players page saying he has been inactive for let's say 4 weeks, that would make dure only real inactives would be target of capping sprees

Where is the fun in capping someone that wont fight back?
Half the fun is attacking someone you think is "inactive" but turns out you were wrong.
I suggest you stop bring soft and just cap anyone that has turf in an area you want,inactive or not.
