It would be nice to know when my friends/enemies are actually online so I can message them in a timely fashion

That's why people use Palringo, otherwise you'd have problems like Bella stated.

It's bit like the database reaponds fast enough to let you know when you're being hit anyway. :P I'll check Palringo out.
