This one is quite simple, make the defensive upgrades more powerful by a factor of 3-5. Having A guard should defend a turf better than 2/3 of a body armor

All defensive upgrades only provide 124 defense.

Guards should be like extra hench at that turf,machine gun nests should be like an incredibly high defence weapon.

You are correct and that is noone uses them.
