I'm not saying it should happen again, but if it does, I think it'd be a hell of a lot more fun if you opened an airport without telling anyone which one in advance. It'd make it easier to get into for the people that are around when it opens. Sounds like more fun to me

I think support have increase the usable area for each airport. This has made it difficult for the big players to block the airports.
Bangkok airport was blocked off within a day of it opening.
After the great move by support to increase the radius, now everybody can use it,

How does blocking off an Airport exactly work? Does a big player just place a lot of turf there and cap anyone who gets close?

If you see an airport with lots of 1 influence turfs, it is probably a battleground between alliances and they trying to block it or take control. Avoid them if you can
