I'd like to be able to lock in comments and/or PMs so someone can't delete the messages they post. Make it easy to keep track of idiots.

Yes but then you have to search for them and they may change their names.
Best way to track idiots is cap one of their turf. Then you have a permanent link to their account even if they reset.
