I thought it did stick to roads.......never thought to check the middle of a field lol. I was all for this update.......now, not so much. I'd love for no more dead spots....but in regards to roads.
-
It works how it's supposed to everywhere I've checked. But I would have rather had it so that the dead zones were erased without making the whole map plantable. It really does help take away the gps aspect of the game.

Well, so much for my safe island. I could control access and it seem like nobody will be able to get there now.I am not sure if this is related, but I have a turf touching another person and it says it is too far away to capture, while another one further away can be captured.
-
Am I the only one who doesn't like this change? I manage to get in every states and provinces and many other countries in Europe with this setup. There's a big strategic advantage right now to block roads, bridges and airports and those strategies will all go out the window if this is implemented. At the less you should have to hop on roads and not across empty spaces.
-
The roads in Southwest Nevada are available, they were all dead spots
-
I do not like it either. I tested again a bit and I could plant turfs on most lakes and rivers of south america. Specially Argentina and Brazil. Most Chilean lakes are fine tho.
-
This is an opion, but if u can now claim turf on lakes, will that make them able to become capo's?
-
They belong to the nearest city/area capo.
I also noticed special capos like airports are gone.
-
I'm not iOS 5 yet so I can use it but from what I read I don't like it stick to the roads
-
Hmm scary, bridges are pretty key! Yeah let's just build castles of turf.
-
Remember though guys just because you don't have to plant turf on a road no more doesn't take away from the game .. Because most turfs are centralised to towns and cities so they are the only key locations to plant turf who cares if you can plant a turf in the middle of nowhere it has no use to anyone !?

I haven't upgraded yet to check, but if that's true, then it would be a major bummer! :(I also noticed special capos like airports are gone.

I tried some airports and couldnt find a spot to plant a turf under airport capo. I tried to plant in same place on current washington airport spot and with new geocoder it just says the city name.

Wrong! If You can sneak into a city by hopping straight through an adjacent forest or mountain range rather than using roads then I'm sure that many people will do this and like many people are saying that takes away from strategy of being able to try to protect sweet spots that people have worked so hard to set up and defend!Remember though guys just because you don't have to plant turf on a road no more doesn't take away from the game .. I may have found a major problem. When I go to claim turf over water in my green build zone, it still goes to the creation screen and gives me a city.
-
I just tried to place new turf with it both on and off and couldn't do it. What kind of fix is that???
-
Okay it seems like every time I want to place a turf in a new area I have to turn my phone off and back on again.

While I like the idea of not having geocoder limit issues, I think too much strategy would be taken away from the game to fix it. No more dead zones, no more bottlenecks, no more need for maps, no more limited access to areas. I'd rather have to wait or switch to wifi to plant turf than lose all map strategy. Stick with the old system.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and the beta testing! We've been able to collect a very useful amount of data on how the new geocoder performs against the Google geocoder, and have found that overall it performs much better!
Several of you have raised concerns about the effect of not requiring a road for turf creation, and after careful consideration have decided to maintain the road requirement. A significant number of players are running iOS 4.x, many on devices that can't be upgraded to iOS5 (which the new geocoder requires). Releasing a geocoder without a roads requirement would be unfair for these players.
-
However, because this new geocoder will be using a different location database (Apple's instead of Google's), your mileage may vary. Some areas will be opened up by the new geocoder, and others will become unavailable. City names will change in some areas, and opinions will differ on which city names are better. We have no control of the city names since this is not our location database. Everyone will have the option to switch to the Google geocoder if they want.
Starting in version 2.27, the new geocoder will be enabled by default for all users whose devices can support it. If you like, you will still be able to switch back to the Google geocoder for the foreseeable future by visiting the Settings app on your device.
-
If people can switch between the location databases how will capos work?
-
That sounds like a good way to handle things.
@Brad - they'll work the same way as they do now. Whomever has the most inf in a city will be capo.

As Mystery said, the capos won't change – the geocoder only applies to turf you're creating, previously-built turf won't have their cities changed. That sounds like a good way to handle things.

Will there be any effects on combat between the TW geocoders? As in, are there any advantages/ disadvantages to players fighting other players using different geocoders?
