Nick my sister woke up I think Friday to find that her turf gps started in Colorado, could you help with this problem?
-
I had this problem before, it happened when I used the 3G and tried to get my location. I talked to an Apple rep at the time and they said it was an issue with the GPS company in that area, and could be due to maintenance or upgrades to their servers. During that time I was able to get it to recognize my correct location by using WiFi Internet.

Sorry to be picky, but GPS company in that area? GPS data comes from satellites, there is no local company involved.
-
Not on iPhones. It doesn't. It's done through cell tower triangulation. The company that handles this is Skyhook.
-
The iPhone is not a true gps unit, and uses agps.
-
If it's GPS it's from satellites. Skyhook and any other location based services are in addition to GPS. The assisted part of AGPS simply helps it find a location faster.

The iPhone only has two antennas. When it cannot get a sattelite fix, it uses agps to get locations, which could cause exactly the proble described by the OP.
Even when it does get a satellite fix, it still uses cell tower and/or wifi to triangulate location. Otherwise, it would take minutes instead of seconds to get a location, and accuracy would be within hundreds of feet instead of just a few feet or meters.
