Many of us like to have discussions and friendly debates. These usually cause a lot of quoting and its more than a bit annoying to have to go through and cut down posts to make room for the discussions. If you won't increas characters maybe make some kind of an exception for quotes

But there is more to it, already names that are too long cross the time since post. It would require a reformatting of the post layout. This may require retrospective application to all past posts. Not sure if it's as easy as it sounds.
