New invite code forum idea
Forums › Suggestions & Feedback › New invite code forum idea-
Well, I was looking threw the invite code forum and saw that it has many thousand pages, and I though, that must take up a hole lot of space on the server that could be put to some other use.
My idea is, what if we each get 2 invite forum posts, one for our code, and one for our list. These could be "bumped" without posting, though it would count towards your post limit. The content could be changed whenever you wanted, but this would not bump the "post."
This would save thousands of unnecessary bumps and threads and hopefully speed the game server up a bit.All ideas welcome

How are these threads going to be bumped without you posting?
What post limit? -

What post limit? They are not bumped as such, you press a button, and they move to the top.
Your post limite is when you get the box saying " you have posted too much..."

That's essentially bumping. There's no reason to create a new system for that.Mystery wrote:

You're referring to being limited to posting twice in a 1? minute period. It sounded like you meant being limited to some overall number of posts.
I'd say just limit every player to 1 thread in the invite forum. They can bookmark it in Safari & bump from there. If they want a new one, they can delete the old one. That's it.

Many people do not use the forums outside of the game. If they implement a bookmark system in-game then I'm all for it, but I a against the idea if it involves anything outside the game app. You're referring to being limited to posting twice in a 1? minute period. All the devs have to do is click a few buttons(I think) and along with the next update - hey presto - the invite forum is reset.
If you believe it's a good idea, hang in there, think about it more thoroughly and add more to it.

And that's why I've opened it to the public, so they can say what they want to add, take away and keep the same.

@gunnwr - what are you talking about?

There are 1133 pages in the invite forum, each with 30 threads on them. That is over 30,000 threads. Some of these have over 3000 posts. With this idea, everyone would be able to have 1 thread in the invite code forum, and this thread would have no posts. Think of the thousands of unnecicary posts this would save, and think how much memory that would free, letting the game run faster!

What about the players who have multiple Posts that are getting bumped. Like sourd normally has many going at once to help spread the title line credit

1000 pages. After that it's deleted. How bout them apples?

I don't like it. It was stated earlier that there are about 30000 posts, but Mickey has like 63k mob, so if 60k people had 2 threads, that'd be 120000 threads. That's a whole lot more than 30000.

Yeah, but if you could bump your code and code list, then you're talking a lot more posts than 300000Wegsies wrote:

But bumping your code in this system would not need a post, there would just be a button on the top of the invite code forum, and when you press it your thread moves to the top, no post requiredthe destroyer 3 wrote:

There aren't 63,000 active players. There's also no reason for people not to delete their old bumps in a thread.
The entire invite forum was just flushed a month or two ago. It's pretty darn empty compared to what it was.

Mystery, my post was referring to him saying "the invite forum must take up a load of server space.

Forget saving memory (ram or virtual) on the server and anyway it's not memory anyway. Hard drive space used for the database table used for the forum is so insignificant on a game server it's not worth worrying about. The game will not play faster if they were deleted as it is processors, bus speed, disk rpm etc that will determine game speed not to mention Internet bandwidth etc.
