If you are having trouble getting location fixes, it could be because of the way Sky hook works.
Skyhook uses wifi hot spots and cell tower triangulation to pinpoint locations. Obviously the the itouch users can't get the cell tower fixes, so Skyhook relies on your wifi hot spot-IF it has been mapped.
If you are not getting a location, it is most likely due to your router not being mapped by Skyhook. Blow is a link where you can submit your router's MAC address to Skyhook.
Once they have it processed (usually about a week) you will get location fixes when connecting via that router...

One thing I noticed with Skyhook, is if you get a location, but then connect via another router that has not been mapped, Skyhook will use your last mapped connection. And it will sometimes use your last mapped connection even if you are connecting to a mapped location. If you get a wrong location, close the app and restart it. If it is still wrong, the access point you are connecting to has not been mapped. If you can get the router's MAC address, you can submit it with the address to Skyhook.
This is where to submit:

Good luck, and enjoy

This was not a random bump of a useless post. A few players were having problems and needed this information.
And somebody thinks it is imortant as it is now pinned. Thanks Nick! I feel speial now.

This is good info for touch users
-
Ye thanks. Although unfortunately the people who have problems with the location probably won't bother reading this anyway
-
Why not? It's pinned to the top of the forum. Keywords are in the title.
What could be done to make it more visible/accessible?

I read somewhere that some I touch users end up in other countries, etc from this type of thing too- how's that happen?

Merci

maybe someone moved? I submitted my router info to them. I suppose if I was to move back to Pittsburgh, take my router and not update with skyhook, anyone connecting through my router would land in Hawaii.

I don't know how to explain the Capo issues, but it can take up to three weeks for skyhook to process and place. Usually it only takes about a week.

Right now it seems like skyhook is down around me cause it hasn't found my position in my town for a month or so! It says I'm an hour east of where I actually am ! And now for the past two days I have no gps and I'm not sure if I can get it in a different town yet cause I haven't left my house! I'll check tonight before work since I work in a diff town and can get wifi at mcdonalds right next door!
-
You're on an iPod, I presume.
Skyhook determines the location by the router you are connected to at the time if it has been mapped.
If it is not mapped, it will use a previous location.
If a router is moved after it has been mapped, it's new location will have to be sent to skyhook. Otherwise it will still use the old location.
-
Are you still conecting to the same router you were a month ago?
Is it your router, or just something you connect to by receiving it over open air?
If the equipment changes, the new router has to be submitted to skyhook.
For example: you connect to your neighbors wifi. The router is mapped. The router breaks. Neighbor buys new router. Uses same network name as old router. YOU think you are on the SAME network, but since the router is changed, it's mac address needs to be submitted to skyhook.
-
Skyhook ties the location to the routers mac address. If the router moves, the address moves with it, unless a "change of address" is updated with skyhook.
